Monitoring supplier stock and lead times
How to keep an eye on distributor stock levels and published lead times for production-critical parts.
Why stock and lead time matter
A part that is in stock today may show a long lead time next month. Seeing the change early gives you time to order ahead or qualify an alternative.
What distributors publish
Many distributors show stock on hand and sometimes a factory lead time on the product page. What鈥檚 shown varies by site and region.
Set a watch list
Choose parts that would stop production if unavailable. Record the stock and lead time each week, or use a monitor to alert you to changes.
Limits
Published stock is a snapshot and can change quickly. Always confirm availability with the supplier before you commit to a plan.
