How to track supplier price increases before you reorder

A practical guide for buyers: how to spot supplier price increases early using public list prices, a simple tracker and automated alerts.

Why increases are missed

Price changes on distributor sites usually happen without notice. If you only check at reorder time, the new price is already in place when the purchase order is raised.

A simple manual method

List your top parts by annual spend. For each one, record the supplier page URL, the current public unit price at your usual order quantity, and the date. Re-check monthly. Our free CSV tracker template has these columns ready.

Automating it

A monitor can check the same pages daily and alert you only when something changes. Focus on high-spend and single-source parts first.

What you can鈥檛 track publicly

Contract, account-specific and quote-only prices aren鈥檛 shown on public pages. Use supplier price-change clauses and regular quote reviews for those.
