How to review your vet fees
A practical routine for reviewing your practice鈥檚 fees against your costs and nearby practices, using public information only.
1. Start from your costs
For high-volume items (consultations, vaccinations, neutering, dental assessments), work out the direct cost per case: time, consumables, drugs and lab fees. Then set the margin you need. Our free margin calculator shows what a price change does to profit per case.
2. Compare like with like
Once the CMA rule applies, practices publish the same 36 item names, so you can compare a "First consultation" with a "First consultation". Check that appointment length and what鈥檚 included match before drawing conclusions.
3. Look at the local picture
List the practices your clients could realistically switch to. Record their published prices for your key items. Our free tracker template has the columns ready.
4. Decide, then update the list first
Under the Order, a changed price must appear on your price list before you charge it. Update the page, then the practice system.
5. Review regularly
Set a regular review, for example quarterly, or use monitoring to get a weekly email when nearby practices change their prices.
